Husband of Lillian M. Hass who resided in Mission, Texas.

Melvin served as a First Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-24J "The Bull" #44-40688, 865th Bomber Squadron, 494th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Hidalgo County, Texas prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on February 18, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Draftsmen.

B-24J #44-40688 took off from Angaur Island, Palau Islands on a bombing mission over Lahug, Cebu City, Philippine Islands. During the mission two of the engines on this B-24 were noted as not working for an unknown reason. They crashed into the sea.

Melvin was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
