Son of Mrs. Annie Norbeck who resided in Baraga, Michigan.

John served as a First Lieutenant & Navigator on B-24J "My Irish Colleen" #44-41176, 371st Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Baraga County, Michigan prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on February 19, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in a machine shop and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24J #44-41176 took off from Morotai Island, Indonesia on a combat mission over Tarakan, North Kalimantan. They were believed to have been shot down. They crashed at sea with the entire crew lost.

John was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
