Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until December 19, 1945.

Oliver served as a Staff Sergeant on B-24D #41-24269, 400th Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Marion County, Indiana prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 13, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Salesperson and also as Married.

B-24D #41-24269 took off from 5 Mile Drome near Port Moresby, Papua, New Guinea on a reconnaissance mission along the eastern coast of New Guinea. They were attacked by five Japanese Ki-43 Oscars. One of the Oscars, piloted by Sgt. Hikoto Sato, rammed them. Their last message sent stated the aircraft was going down. It is believed the aircraft went down in the vicinity of Karkar Island. No trace of the crew was ever found.

Oliver was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the "Silver Star", Air Medal, and the Purple Heart.
