"Mr. John Hood, an aged resident of Mineral Ridge, was stricken with apoplexy while hauling lumber from this city to Ohltown Saturday afternoon and died before assistance could reach him. The body was removed to the home of his son-in-law, County Surveyor Homer C. White, at Mineral Ridge.

Deceased was born at Ohltown and would have been 80 years old next month. He enlisted with the Sixth Ohio Cavalry and served until the close of the war. He was taken prisoner after the battle of Gettysburg (sic, Emmittsburg) and was confined for six months on the notorious Belle Island.

Hr. Hood is survived by his wife and the following children: John and Lafayette Hood, of Duluth, Minn.; Mrs. Angie Velte and Mrs. Rebecca Ackerman, of Pittsburg; Mrs. Homer C. White of Mineral Ridge. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the residence of H. C. White."
