J. Levi Hood was the son of Simon Hood an Louisa Bricker.

In 1860 Levi, single, is living with his sister, Dorothy Hood Hake and her family in Jefferson, Wisconsin. He married Louisa White on 20 November 1860 in Trumbull County, Ohio.

Levi was a Private in the Army. He enlisted on 5 October 1861 and was discharged on 15 July 1865. He served in Company H 20th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, with men from Trumbull and Mahoning Counties.

In 1870 Levi, Louisa and their children, Sherman and Flora were living in Weathersfield, Ohio, near Levi's brother Henry Hood.

In 1880 Levi and Louisa were living at Weathersfield with their four children.

In 1900 Levi and Louisa were living at Weathersfield. Living in the household was Minnie Hood, their daughter and Cecilia Hood, their granddaughter. Cecilia was born in June of 1889 in Ohio. Minnie Hood was single and born in September of 1875 in Ohio. The census record indicates that Louisa Hood was the mother of 4 living children.
