Mrs. Catherine Wente who has made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hardiek in Teutopolis for the past several years died about 4 0'clock Monday afternoon, March 5, 1934 at their home. She has been in failing health for the past three months due to her advanced age. She was 84 years, 6 months and 6 days old at the time of her demise.

Catherine Hatke was born on a farm north of Teutopolis on August 29, 1849 as the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hatke. Her mother's maiden name was Elizabeth Freuling [**Note from AW: This is an apparent error - her mother's maiden name was Maria Anna Feldmann]. On January 11, 1870 she was united in marriage to Clemens Wente in St. Francis Church, Teutopolis. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Wente made their home in the Lillyville community where Mr. Wente died 27 years ago. The following children were born to this union who survive: Mrs. Frank (Anna) Vollmer, Mattoon, Ill.; John Wente, Sigel, Ill.; Mrs. John (Minnie) Althoff, Effingham, Ill.; Mrs. George (Kate) Weis and Mrs. Leo (Cecilia) Hardiek, both of Teutopolis. A son Henry, died eleven years ago while two children died in infancy. 27 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, besides one brother, John Hatke and one half-brother, Joseph Hatke, both of Teutopolis; and one sister, Mrs. Barney Wente of Effingham are left to mourn her loss.

Mrs. Wente was a faithful Catholic throughout her life, being affiliated with the Married Ladies Sodality and the Third Order of St. Francis Church. She was a devoted mother to her children and a kind neighbor and faithful friend.

Funeral services are being held this (Thursday) morning at 9 o'clock at St. Francis Church, this city. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. The Press extends its sincere sympathy to the bereaved children of the deceased.
