The daughter of "General" George Lee Ward & Elena Strait; born Sept 27 1894 in Ravenswood, WV. Her family moved frequently, living in Jackson, Cabell, and Wood Counties, WV. She completed an 8th grade education and began working in Huntington, WV in 1908. She married Clarence M Gantz, a farmer, on 27 Sep 1914 in Wood County, WV and committed herself to being a devoted wife, diligent loving mother to her family. She was the typical farm wife who generated delicious meals for her family and farm workers. She made large kettles of homemade apple butter each fall. After Clarence died in 1955, she sold the Waverly property and brought property at 3416 25th in Parkersburg to be near her widowed daughter, Esther Edman. Later, when her health began to fail, she sold the Parkersburg property and moved to live with her daughter, Anna Margaret Bunner. After she suffering several strokes and unable to care for herself, she was moved to a nursing home in Beverly, OH where she died in February 1972. She was buried in Red Hill beside Clarence.

Funeral services for Mrs Eunice M Gantz, 77, of Waverly, who died Wednesday, Feb 16, 1972 in Fairview Nursing Home in Beverly, OH will be held 11 am Saturday at the Franklin and Son Memorial Chapel, Parkersburg, Dr Bruce Cummons and the Rev Dwaine Walters will officiate and burial will be in Red Hill United Methodist Cemetery. She was born Sept 27, 1894, the daughter of the late General Lee and Alma Ward. She was a charter member of the Red Hill United Methodist Church and had attended Parkview Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Cornelius Gantz of Baltimore, MD; four daughters, Mrs Frances Edman of Baltimore, MD, Mrs Esther Edman of Parkersburg, Mrs Anna Bunner and Mrs Loretta Earl, both of Waverly; three brothers, Rev J C Ward of Ellenboro, WV, Lewis Ward, and Carl Ward, both of Parkersburg; 24 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
