SARAH A. PARSONS

Sarah Almorene Holmes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Holmes, was born at Roseville, Ill., on December 13, 1853, and passed away at her home in Russell, Iowa, on March 13, 1928, at the age of 74 years and 3 months.

The deceased was one of a family of eight children which consisted of three boys and five girls. Of this number two brothers, Oscar and Leonidas, and two sisters, Della and Laburna, preceded her in death.

When she was but a few months old her parents came to Iowa, settling in Lucas county. Here she grew to womanhood and on December 25, 1872, was united in marriage to George Parsons. This union was blessed with four children, two sons, Emory and Walter, and two daughters, Mary Etta and Inez Winona. In 1889, Mr. and Mrs. Parsons were called upon to lay away their son, Walter, who was 9 years old. The mother was permitted, however, to see the other three children grow to maturity and establish their own homes.

Mr. and Mrs. Parsons made their home on a farm southeast of Russell until about fourteen years ago, when they moved into town. With the exception of the first few months of her life, she has lived in this community. Here she grew to womanhood, here she married, here she raised her family, here she spent her old age, here she passed away. This community shares with her loved ones in their grief.

Years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Parsons united with the Trinity Evangelical church. While they remained on the farm near there, they took an active part in the work of the Sunday school and church. Naturally, when they moved to town, they were loath to break the ties made sacred by experiences of those early days and so had continued to hold membership at that place.

Mrs. Parsons leaves, in addition to her husband, one son, Emory, and two daughters, Mrs. Mary Etta Chapman and Mrs. Inez Winona Sears, one brother, William, of Chariton, Iowa, and two sisters, Mrs. Daneta Arnold of Chariton, and Mrs. Ida McKinley or Avard, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous other relatives and friends.

A devoted wife, a loving mother, a kind neighbor, a pioneer in the community, she has passed over to the other side to be in the Master's presence and to await the coming of those she loved.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, March 14, 1928, at the Russell Methodist church, conducted by Rev. C. A. Claypool and assisted by Rev. Stephens. Burial was made in the Russell cemetery.
