DONETA ARNOLD
Doneta A. Holmes, daughter of Daniel and Mary Holmes, was born in the home of her parents in Benton township, Lucas county, on Jan. 3, 1860 and passed away at her home on Park street in Chariton on Feb. 2, 1955 at the age of 95 years and one month.
It was at this farm home she was united in marriage to Mann Arnold on the fourth day of January, 1881. To this union one daughter was born, who died in infancy.
Mrs. Arnold and her husband went to housekeeping just east of the Mt. Carmel church and up to the time of Mr. Arnold's death on Feb. 24, 1932, her entire life had been spent in Benton township.
In the spring of 1933 she purchased her home on Park street in Chariton and it was here on Jan. 2, she celebrated her 95th birthday with her only living sister, Mrs. Ida McKinley, of Alva, Okla., and with nieces, nephews and friends gathered about her.
She leaves to mourn her passing her sister, Mrs. McKinley and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Miley Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. A. E. Beals. Interment was in the Russell cemetery.
Peaceful be thy rest Dear Auntie
It is sweet to breathe thy name.
In life we loved you dearly
And in death we do the same.
You are gone, we can't recall you
Never will your memory fade.
Sweetest memories ever linger
Around the grave where you are laid.
