Verl was born in Rupert, Idaho, on July 17, 1923, to Thomas and Hettie Blacker. Verl and his twin brother, Earl, were born into a large family of 12 children. He was raised and schooled in Rupert. His family was very close and shared great times playing together. At age 20, he served in the U.S. Army. When inducted, he was by occupation a farmer and after discharge his many careers included railroad, sugar factory, and his greatest love was gardening for himself and others. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was endowed in the Logan Temple.
In 1961, he married Doris Evans Moon and from this marriage came his pride and joy, his son, Verl William Blacker. Verl also had five stepchildren, Jim Moon of Burley, Diana Jancik of Twin Falls, Danny Moon of Long Beach, Mississippi, Phyllis Perotto and Lundy Moon, both of Rupert. Later in 1986, he married Connie Eagle and they were later divorced. His loving family will miss him.
He is survived by his son, Verl Blacker; one granddaughter, Brynn Anetta Blacker; and six step-grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, Josh Perotto, Matthew, Jen and Stephanie Moon; three brothers, Fred Blacker of Willard, Utah, George Blacker of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Earl (Ruby) Blacker of Burley; and two sisters, Merintha Garner of Rupert and Marie (Darrell) Green of Burley. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Leroy, Theodore, Loyn and Alma; and one sister, Afton Hatch.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at the Rupert LDS 2nd Ward, with Bishop Dean Condie officiating. A viewing for friends and family will be held Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
