Norman Everett Johns, 83 (b. 5 Jun 1912), of Hortense, died Wednesday (21 Feb 1996) at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick following a long illness.

A native of a section of Wayne County that is now Brantley County, he was a son of the late James Everett Johns and Carrie Lee Crews Johns. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nora Bell Hickox Johns. He was a retired farmer and also worked in the pulpwood industry.

Survivors include four daughters, Inez Griffin of Hortense, Betty Crews of Nahunta, Jeanette O'Neal of Nahunta and Ruth J. Harrison of Hortense; one son, Michale Johns of Kingsland; one sister, Kathleen Weiss of Matador, TX; three brothers, Virgil Johns and Carlos Johns, both of Nahunta and Lesse Johns of Cullman, AL; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p. m. from the chapel of Chambless Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Harris officiating. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery in Hickox.

Music was by granddaughters. Songs, "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder," and "Amazing Grace."

Pallbearers were George "Butch" Rozier, Ricky Young, Johnny Brauda, J. C. BuBose, Wayne Jacobs and Andy Middleton.

Chambless Funeral Home of Nahunta was in charge of arrangements.
