Simon married Louisa Bricker on 12 November 1819 and they had nine children.

From "A Twentieth Century History of Trumbull County, Ohio" by Harriet Taylor Upton, Lewis Publishing Company. 1909. P79-80:

"Simon Hood came to Liberty (Ohio) in 1804 from Penn. He was of English parentage his father coming from England and locating in Washington Co., PA when a boy. (NOTE: his father was born in Bart Township, Lancaster, PA) Simon was born at that place and came to Trumbull Co. when a boy of six years. There he was educated at the public schools of Liberty Township. He began life's career as a carpenter, at which trade he worked a number of years. He married Louisa Bricker daughter of Henry Bricker. Mrs. Simon Hood was born near Chambersburg, Penn. where she received her education in the common schools and at Columbiana Co. near Washingtonville. Nine children were born to this worthy deceased; Dorothea, who married David Hake now resides in Wisconsin at the age of 85 years, Henry Hood of this memoir, N.C. Hood who died from disease contracted in the Civil War, William B. Hood, deceased, David E, deceased, Levi, deceased, Mary C. Hood who died at the age of nine years.

Simon Hood was in the war of 1812 serving as a captain under Col. Cotgrave. In politics, he was a Jeffersonian Democrat up to 1860 when he joined the ranks of the Republican Party and voted for President Lincoln. He was a member of the German Reformed Church."

Simon's fourth great grandson Darren Hood offered the following: "His commanding officer was William Cotgreave, not Cotgrave, I found this misspelling in another county history text as well as Trumbull county's. It appears that Cotgreave's Ohio militia was active during the Battle of Mackinac Island."

+++++++ Thanks to Find a Grave contributor MrsG for the following:
"According to the Trumbull County Ohio County Death Records book (where this notation was made), Simon "served in the War of 1812, had 4 son in war for Union, and was a member of Lutheran Church". I've never seen a note like this on any of the other pages from that time, so they must have thought it remarkable at the time."
