On December 30, 1851 he married Elizabeth Harrison in Hamilton County, IN. They had one child, John Thomas Harvey.
On October 20, 1855 he married Charlotte Amelia Lovin in Hamilton, IN. They had nine children: William Oliver, Albert V., James Elias, Nancy Jane, Arthur Sherman, Julia Etta, Elizabeth, Charles Howard, and Margaret.
He migrated with his parents and nine living siblings and their families by covered wagon from Milton, Wayne County, Indiana to Edinburg, Missouri. Michael, himself, brought his second wife, Charlotte, and three sons: John Thomas, William Oliver and Albert. They traveled from September 19, 1859 to November 9, 1859.
In 1884, he migrated on to Haddam, Washington, KS where he lived out the rest of his days.
Though Michael was of the Methodist faith, he was born into a family with a great Quaker heritage.
