Daughter of Andrew B. Griffin and Susannah Tate (Fortson) Griffin of AL, she married Joseph B. "Joe" Summers on Sep 18, 1873, near Opelika, Lee County, AL. After coming to TX in 1881, they crossed the Red River in 1889, and settled in the western wilderness of what was soon-to-be the community of Eldorado, OK. Joe established the Summers & Son Hardware Store there in 1903, but after Hortense's death, he moved back to Opelika, AL, where he is buried. Children were: Barnett, Fairrer, Roland, Romie, Joe, Victoria, Andrew, and Susan.
