Though orphaned at an early age, A.B. Griffin lived a long and productive life. In addition to fathering a large and successful family, he was also a Superior Court Clerk, County Treasurer in both Georgia and Alabama, militiaman during the War of 1812 and the Creek Indian Wars, plantation owner, Justice of the Peace, State Senator, and delegate to the 1865 Alabama Constitutional Convention.
A.B.'s tombstone and many online sources record his death as Nov 9, 1895. However, this is in error. Obituaries, church records, and personal sources all support his death as having occurred on Nov 11th.
Though many have tried, nobody has been successful in discovering the parents or ancestors of this remarkable man. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
In addition to the ten children listed below, A.B. and Susannah Griffin were also the father of John Randolph Griffin, b. Oct 28, 1834 in Harris Co., GA. Married Oletha Macon Nuckolls in 1859 in Tuskegee, AL, then practiced law in Bellevue, Bossier Parish, LA. He is believed to have died between 1873 and June 1880.
