George Henry was the third of ten children of William Henry and Rose E. Tomlinson Backous: Charles Alfred, Lottie M., George Henry, Samuel J., Walter G., Edna B., Harley Earl, Floyd S., Jesse Wilber and Elmer Epith.

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, January 9, 1896, page 4, column 3. "Obituary - George Henry, son of Wm. and Rose Bacous,** was born in Story county, Iowa, June 9th 1885, and died near Collins January 6th 1896, aged 10 years, 6 months and 27 days. He was sick only five days and his sufferings were quite severe. George was a good boy, always dutiful to his parents and respectful to others. He attended Sunday School regularly and took quite an interest in the work. The funeral was held at Peoria on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and was conducted by Rev. Ferguson, of this place. The house was well filled with the friends of the family, and all showed their deep sympathy for the bereaved ones. CARD OF THANKS - Wm. Bacous and wife are very grateful for the kindness shown them in their late bereavement, which came to them in the death of their son, George Henry." **Editorial note, spelling of Bacous is from the original newspaper article.
