PONCHATOULA - James W. McCarter, 82, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at North
Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital, Hammond.
He was a native of Lawrence County, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Scharwarth McCarter of Ponchatoula; one
daughter, Vickie McCarter Mitrakas of Queens, N.Y.; two sons, James Wayne and
Samuel Dale McCarter, both of Ponchatoula; three sisters, Nettie Brown and Blanche
Jones, both of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and Jean McCarter of Wisconsin; two brothers,
Oscar and Homer McCarter, both of Lawrenceburg; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-
grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
His first wife, Vannie Earhart McCarter; two daughters, Jeanetta Ann Pigott and
Lucille Marie McCarter; one son, Richard Lee McCarter; his father, Horace Lemuel
McCarter; and his mother, Della Kemp McCarter Baker, all preceded him in death.
Burial will be at
Ponchatoula Cemetery.
