Carol Valene Griggs Davies passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children on August 8, 2017, at the age of 82.

She was born on September 19, 1934, in Driggs, Idaho, to Ninetta LaVern Andrews and James Preston Griggs. She grew up in Coltman, Idaho, attended Ucon High School and was part of the first graduating class of the newly formed Bonneville High School. It was during high school that she met her eternal companion, Larry L Davies. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 20, 1952. Four children were born to this eternal family.

She grew up in a musical family and often sang with or accompanied her family on the piano. That love for music extended to her own family who have fond memories of singing around the piano.

Carol worked as a cook for the Bonneville School District at Lincoln, Ammon, and Tiebreaker Elementary schools. She retired after 25 years of service. She was known for her cinnamon rolls and chili. She also loved and tenderly cared for many children in her home-based child care.

She and Larry were residents of Idaho Falls and Ammon and wintered in St. George for 12 years. They served three missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: first in Cove Fort, Utah, in St. George, Utah as member and statistical records missionaries and as service missionaries for the Idaho Falls Bishops’ Storehouse. She served in many callings including in the Special Needs Primary and Young Women, Relief Society, and Young Women’s programs. She was a devoted member and had a firm testimony of the gospel and God’s plan for eternal families. She especially loved her callings as a pianist.

Carol loved planning and attending family reunions, holiday picnics, and birthday celebrations. She took such care in preparing a special baggie of treats for every grandchild for holidays. There was always a reason to gather family together and celebrate.

Carol enjoyed crocheting dolls and afghans, traveling and camping, decorating her home and yard, assembling jigsaw puzzles and playing Old Maid with grandchildren.

Carol radiated the Light of Christ. Being a wife, mother, and grandmother was her passion in life. She gave her family a sterling example of loving kindness to everyone around her.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Alesia (Paul) Schwieder of Iona; son, Kent (Jolene) Davies of Ammon; son, Blair Davies of Orem, Utah; and daughter, Renee’ (Robert) Bodily of Iona. She is also survived by three sisters, Jeanette (RJ) Davies of Holladay, Utah, Bernice (Varr) Nelson of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mary Lou (Don) Schroeder of Mendon, Utah, and a brother Vaughn (Linda) Griggs of Nibley, Utah, 19 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, her parents, LaVern and Preston Griggs, a sister, Maxine Brinton, and three brothers, Jay Griggs, Alan Griggs, Burton Griggs and three great-grandchildren, Jayden Neal Guymon, Maci Jayde Guymon, and Akaia Drea Davies.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Monday, August 14, at the Ammon 9th Ward building, 4030 John Adams Parkway (near the railroad tracks). The family will receive family and friends Sunday evening from 6-7:30 pm at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street and Monday one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
