Larry L Davies passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his wife and children on May 13, 2017, at the age of 82, from natural causes.

He was born on May 26, 1934, in Shelton, Idaho, to George Lynn Davies and Mary Luceal Cleverley Davies. He grew up in Shelton and the Lincoln area on Hitt Road. He attended Ucon High School and was part of the first graduating class of the newly formed Bonneville High School. He was the quarterback and captain of the first Bonneville football team. It was during high school that he met his eternal companion, Carol Valene Griggs. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS temple on August 19, 1952, shortly after graduation. Four children were born to this eternal family.

Larry grew up farming with his dad. After he was married, he worked for Garrett Freight Lines in Idaho Falls. He retired from working as a bus driver for the INEL after 38 years. He was awarded first place in the first Bus ‘Road-eo’ in Idaho Falls. From there he competed regionally in Las Vegas taking 2nd place and then on to a national competition in Orlando, Florida. He was an INEL Million Mile Award winner, given to drivers who drove one million miles without a preventable accident.

He and Carol were residents of Idaho Falls and Ammon and wintered in St. George for 12 years. They served three missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: first in Cove Fort, Utah, and then later in St. George as member and statistical records missionaries and finally as missionaries for the Idaho Falls Bishops’ Storehouse. He served in many capacities in the church including Elders Quorum President, Young Men’s basketball coach, and a counselor in the Bishopric. He was a devoted member and had a firm testimony of the gospel and God’s plan for eternal families.

Larry loved spending time with family during reunions, holiday picnics, and birthday celebrations. There was always a reason to gather family together and celebrate. Often times these gatherings included him playing tunes on his harmonica while the family sang along.

He enjoyed growing a vegetable garden and took great pride in keeping his yard and garden immaculate. He also loved cars and car rides, horses, dogs, and traveling.

He was a man of integrity, completely devoted to his wife and family. He was loved by his many neighbors, friends, and bus passengers through the years. He is a worthy son of our Heavenly Father.

Larry is survived by his wife, Carol, and daughter, Alesia (Paul) Schwieder of Iona; son, Kent (Jolene) Davies of Ammon; son, Blair Davies of Orem, Utah; and daughter, Renee’ (Robert) Bodily of Iona. He is also survived by his sisters Betty Humphries of Coltman, Leah Lou Whitney of Ammon, and Colleen (Roger) Clark of Idaho Falls, 19 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Lynn Davies; his mother, Mary Luceal Davies; and two great-grandchildren, Jayden Neal Guymon and Akaia Drea Davies.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 19, at the Ammon 9th Ward building, 4030 John Adams Parkway, with Bishop Carson Dye officiating. The family will receive family and friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Coltrin Funeral Home on 2100 First Street and Friday from 10 to 10:45 am at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
