MONTICELLO...Funeral services for Mrs.Will F. (Katharine E.) Poppe, 77, were held Monday afternoon, April 8, at St. Matthew Lutheran church. The Rev. Anton Kirkegaard conducted the services and interment was in Prairie Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Poppe died Thursday evening, April 4, at John McDonald hospital following an illness of a few weeks. She was born Nov. 5, 1890, the daughter of John and Eliza Weers Oltmanns at Council Bluffs.
Following her birth the family moved to Jones county and she received her education in Jones county rural schools. She married Emil Ortgies Feb. 16,1911, and he preceded her in death in 1920.
She married Will F. Poppe Oct. 28, 1931, and the couple farmed near Monticello before moving to Monticello in 1946.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Ortgies, and a brother, William.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Herman and Carl Ortgies of Anamosa; two daughters, Mrs. Gerke (Louise) Bohlken of Scotch Grove and Mrs. Learow (Meta) Tobiason of Monticello; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grand children; two sisters, Mrs. Molly Kanke of Bellevue and Mrs. John (Dena) Albers of Anamosa; two brothers, John and Albert H. of Anamosa.
Casket beareres were Elvern Capron, Albert Knake, Henry Oltmanns, William Albers, Jack Heiken and Vernon Lange.
