HERMAN ORTGIES
Services for Herman Ortgies, 79, were held Friday, Dec. 6, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello.
Herman Ortgies of Anamosa, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness.
Herman Ortgies and Frieda Stutt were married Oct. 4, 1934 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. She died Nov 2, 1984.
The couple had farmed in the Jones County area and also worked for the Amber Creamery. After retiring from active farming, he operated Herman's Feed Service in Anamosa. He retired from the feed business in 1974.
Herman was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, and had also been active in Jones County 4-H.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Plath of Des Moines, a son, Virgil (Bud) of Lewistown, Mont.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by two sisters, Meta Tobiason of Monticello and Louise Bohlken of Encinitas, Calif.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers.
Casket bearers were Robert Tobiason, Tawni Barker, Brian Plath, David Ortgies, Kraig Holub and Derek Ortgies.
Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, was in charge of funeral arrangements.
