CARL L ORTGIES
Carl L. Ortgies, 65, died Monday, Jan 1, 1979 from an apparent heart attack.
He was born Sept. 16, 1913, the son of Emil and Katherine Oltmann Ortgies at Cass Township in Jones County.
On Feb. 28, 1933, he married Carolina Anton at the Wayne Zion Church. The couple farmed in Jones county several years. At the time of his retirement in 1976, he had worked at Collins radio for 22 years.
He is survived by his wife, Caroline, four children, Emil Ortgies and Mrs. Carleen Sievertsen, both of Anamosa; Dennis Ortgies, Monticello and Mrs. Paul (Carol) Beckley of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Gerke (Louise) Bohlken and Mrs. Learoy (Meta) Tobiason, both of Monticello, and a brother, Herman Ortgies of Center Junction.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant daughters, and a brother, Ernest.
Pallbearers were Rick Sievertsen, Dean Ortgies, Martin Ortgies, Terry Tuetken, Mark Ortgies and Kevin Anderson.
Services will be held Thursday, Jan 4, at 1:30 pm. at the Wayne Zion church. The Rev. Marvin Mueller will officiate. Burial will be in the Wayne Cemetery.
