John Henry Schierholz was born Feb. 28, 1840 at Bremer, Ohio, where he lived until the summer of 1847, when with his parents and two brothers and two sisters traveled by wagon thru Chicago to Clayton County, Iowa stopping at Garnville where they lived for several years. He was married at that place April 7, 1866 to Dorothy Riebenstein and moved from there in 1869 to Benton County remaining there until 1870 when they moved to O'Brien county, settling at Sutherland. There were eleven children born to this union, eight of which survive him, namely: Mrs. Bertha Thiessen of Sutherland; George of old O'Brien; Henry of Paulina, Edward of Hartley; Dora Otte of Sutherland; Julius and Albert of Round Lake, Minn; Mrs. Lizzie Wittrock also of Round Lake. There are also left to mourn his loss twenty four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Three sisters of Mr. Schierholz are living in Clayton County, Iowa and one brother. Another brother resides at Canova, S.D.
