Lyons - Mr. Leonard Powell, Jr. age 89, of Lyons, died Monday, April 8, 2019, in Meadows Health in Vidalia, after a sudden illness.
He was a native of Tattnall County, growing up in Collins, living in Reidsville for six years, and has lived in Toombs County since 1968. He retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation after twenty-seven years, and was Baptist by faith. He enjoyed fishing and watching the Atlanta Braves. He was preceded in death by two children, Jeffery Powell and Becky Powell Dreggors; parents, Leonard Powell, Sr. and Katie Thomas Powell; three sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Mozelle Powell of Lyons; two daughters, Candace Powell Brown and husband Fred of Reidsville, and Tina Powell Edwards and husband Phillip “Rooster” of Lyons; son-in-law, David B. Dreggors of the New Branch Community; two sisters, Tera Collins and Joyce Edge of Lyons; six grandchildren, Matt Brown and wife Felisha, Will Anderson and wife Kimberly, Sara Howard and husband Patrick, Sam Dreggors and wife Caitlyn, Hayley Wilkinson and husband Brenden, and Jarrett Powell; ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 11th at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Chris Cannington officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon from 2:00 until just prior to the service.
