At her husband's death she had nine children ranging in age from 8 months to 14 years. She purchased a 140 acre farm near Brushtown. She received many awards for her farming and was the first woman in Pennsylvania to receive the Master Farmer Award at the Harrisburg Farm Show in 1941.
