Georgia Matteson was born at Center Lisle, New York, Dec. 14, 1868 and when about three and one-half years of age, with her parents, moved to this county where in her early childhood she attended the district school. In 1876 her father bought a property in Blair and she became a student in the Blair High School from which she graduated in 1879. After her graduation she became a teacher and taught school for a period of five years.
On March 1, 1884 she was married to Jas. E. Hastings and with her husband moved to the farm about ten miles northwest of Blair where they resided until the spring of 1919 when they moved to Blair where the family has since resided.
Mr. and Mrs. Hastings were the parents of ten children, all of whom are still living and are as follows: N. H. Hastings of Long View, Washington; Mrs. R. G. Lowe of Alberta, Canada; Mrs. W. O. Nay of Newton, British Columbia; Glen A. Hastings of Rushville, Nebr.; Mrs. H. C. Hansen, Mrs. Arthur Jones, J. H. Hastings and Bernice and Edward of Blair.
About six years after her marriage she united with the Methodist Church of which she has been a active, capable and exemplary member, and even to within a few weeks has been present at church gatherings.
The husband passed away some years ago and the wife has kept the family together and performed the double duty towards them and has done her part faithfully until ill health overtook her and after a prolonged illness she passed away on Tuesday night of last week. The children were immediately notified and the funeral services were held on last Saturday afternoon but on account of the impossibility of Mrs. Lowe of Canada reaching Blair at the time the interment was deferred until Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Georgia Hastings passed away rather suddenly last Tuesday night from the effects of a cancer that she had suffered from for several years. Some months ago she had her arm amputated in the hope of prolonging her life. She suffered greatly, but patiently, until the welcome end came.
The funeral was held at 2 o'clock last Saturday afternoon, Rev. O. U. McProud, her pastor, officiating. Her daughter, Alta, Mrs. R. G. Lowe, was expected here from Alberta, Canada in time for the service, but was detained at the border a day for a passport, and didn't arrive until Sunday morning, so the body was held until she came. Burial was made in the Blair cemetery at 1:30 Sunday afternoon.
