George F. Hertel, Sr. was the son of Christian Henry Hertel and Anna Uhll. He was born Oct 22, 1867 in Firetown, Calhoun Co., Illinois (which I couldn't find on here) and died Sept 27, 1924 in Kansas. He is buried in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Hanston, Hodgeman Co., Kansas.

He married Ida Mae Tipton on October 18, 1893 in Tiptonville, New Mexico. Ida's obit states they were married in 1894, but all my other sources indicate it was 1893.

George and his brother Joseph used to go to New Mexico to break horses and work on farms. They both met and fell in love with sisters. George married Ida Mae Tipton and Joseph married her sister Edna Tipton. The girls were the daughters of William B. Tipton and Mary Manuela Watrous. Tiptonville and Watrous New Mexico are named after the families of these two.

George Ferdinand Hertel and Ida Mae Tipton had seven children: George Ferdinand Jr., Ethel Mary Seaman, Christian Bryant Hertel, Lee Marcus Hertel, Susie Irene Salmans. They also had Edwin and Edith, both died at about two years old.

My grandmother was Sue Salmans.

I was able to find where the grave of Edwin Hertel is located. See Findagrave #166176431.
