OBITUARY:
Ida Mae Hertel, daughter of William B. Tipton and Mary Watrous Tipton was born at Tiptonville, New Mexico May 2, 1886 and died suddenly at 6:15 Saturday evening September 29 at her home one mile south Hanston at the age of 75 years.
On October 18, 1894 she was married to George F. Hertel Sr. at Watrous, New Mexico. They came to Kansas in 1902 and settled on the farm which was still her home at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by two children, Edwin and Elsie, who died in infancy and a son George F. Hertel Jr. who died July 28, 1927. Her husband George succeumbed September 27, 1924. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Ethel) Seaman, Honolulu, Hawaii, Mrs. Vance (Sue) Salmans, Hanston and two sons Lee of Fort Worth, Texas and Christie Hertel of Hanston, fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grand children. She has been a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church and was one of the organizers of the parish Church. Funeral services were conducted October 2 at Hanston. Rev. George Husmann officiated.

My grandparents were Vance and Sue Salmans.

DEATH OF MRS. G.F. HERTEL
Mrs. Ida Hertel, one of the pioneer citizens of this county, passed away Saturday evening at her home in Hanston. Mrs. Hertel had been in Hanston during the day Saturday and her death followed a heart attack in the evening, which was a severe shock to her relatives and friends.
Mrs. Hertel is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. W.E. (Ethel) Seaman of Hawaii and Mrs. Vance (Sue) Salmans of Hanston and two sons Christie of Hanston and Lee of Great Bend. Her husband, George F. Hertel and her son George, Jr. preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Monday morning at 9 o'clock in the Catholic Church in Hanston conducted by Rev. George Husmann. Burial was in the Hanston Catholic Cemetery.
Among the friends from Jetmore attending the funeral were Mrs. M. A. Gleason, Mrs. Louis Schauvliege, Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Stegman, Mrs. C.I. Housman and Mrs. L.F. Baldrey and perhaps others.

NOTE: Ida's obit states they were married in 1894, but all my other sources indicate they were married in 1893.
