RURAL HALL - Mr. Eugene Walter "E.W." Rumley Jr., 82, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem after a period of declining health. Mr. Rumley was born June 12, 1922, in Stokes County to the late Eugene Walter and Carrie Parrish Rumley. Mr. Rumley was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Lawson Rumley, in November 1998. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of King and had retired from Hanes Dye and Finishing Co. in Winston-Salem. Mr. Rumley was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, and was a member of American Legion Post 290 in King.

Surviving are a son, Kenneth Lee Rumley, and his wife, Susan, of Rural Hall; a daughter, Dianne Rumley Weddle, and her husband, Leon, of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Rumley Weavil; and a brother, Richard Rumley, and wife, Violet, all of Winston-Salem.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today, June 2, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall, with Dr. John Wren officiating. The Rumley family will receive friends after the service. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, at The First Baptist Church Cemetery in King, with military honors provided by the King American Legion Honor Guard. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
