Israel was born about 1773 based on his age at death (61 years), the son of William Hart and Hannah Laning. He was presumably born in Maidenhead Twp., old Hunterdon Co., NJ (now Lawrence Twp., Mercer Co.), where his parents lived. In 1793, he was about 19 or 20 years old thus required to serve in (and was listed in) the Hunterdon Militia at the time of the militia census that year.

Israel married Mary Laning on 11 Nov. 1819 in Lamberton, old Burlington (now Mercer) Co., NJ. They appear to have had only one child to survive to 1833 (based on Israel's will).

He was the executor of his father's estate in 1819. He is presumed to also have died in Lawrence Twp. (old Hunterdon Co.) since he refers to himself in his will as being of that place. In addition to his wife and son, he mentioned his sisters Jemima Pierson and Mary Temple, and his brother William, in the will. He named his wife Mary and nephew Nathaniel Temple as co-executors.

Note: He is presumed to be the same Israel Hart who married Mary Lanning (see newspaper notice), although in that record the husband's middle initial is reported as S.
