NOTE: The Cooleys, in Genealogy of Early Settlers in Trenton and Ewing ... (1883), p. 267, erroneously attribute the death year and age of this Nathaniel to a son of Timothy and Martha (Cornell) Temple. If Timothy and Martha did, in fact, have a son named Nathaniel (which is questionable), then he was the not one who died in 1841.
The estate papers for this Nathaniel (d. 1841), including multiple entries in Minute Book A of the Mercer County Orphans Court, show clearly that he was the husband of Eleanor Slack and the father of Mary Anna and George R. Temple. Guardianship of the two minor children was granted to their mother on 24 March 1842 (see Book A, p. 180). Nathaniel's brother Israel Temple had been granted co-administration of the estate, and was authorized to (and did) sell Nathaniel's lands in order to satisfy debts.
Thanks to Sara Hendrickson for prompting further research into Nathaniel's identity.
Note: Nathaniel's full birth date comes from a family tree at ancestry.com and needs to be verified.
