- This small family cemetery is located on federal land in the Uwharrie National Forest, about 0.7 miles north of McCallum Road, and 1/4-mile north of the Lewis Mill Pond. The easiest access is to hike in on the forest road that starts on McCallum Road at approximate lat/long of 35.27643, -79.81752. This road is closed to private vehicle traffic, but can be easily hiked with no special access permissions. After crossing the bridge near the Lewis Mill Pond, bear left at a fork in the road. Leave the access road at an old chimney ruin (the homestead site of the Abraham Cochran family). The cemetery sits on a ridge top within a grove of hardwood trees, and is bordered by a split-rail fence. The undergrowth appears to be kept clear by the Forest Service.
- The cemetery is in excellent condition overall, given the age (early 1800s). It contains very few identifiable graves for such a large area, so it is likely that there are many unmarked gravesites. Of the marked graves of the Cochran and Poer families, several are clearly legible, and in two cases (for Abraham Cochran and his wife Tamer Bruton Cochran), modern flat stones were added in the 1990s.
