THIS IS A PRIVATELY OWNED CEMETERY containing eleven known graves of the Jones, Nevil, Riggs and Sumerlin families. The Cemetery is located in South West Bulloch County, Georgia on the West side of U. S. Highway 301 about one and one-quarter miles south of the Lotts Creek Bridge. The current landowner is the great great grandson of Thomas Nevil, interred in this cemetery, and Mary E. Jones, interred in Lower Lotts Creek Church Cemetery which is just North of Lotts Creek and 2 miles North of this cemetery. The Thomas Nevil Cemetery's Approximate GPS Location is North Latitude 32.344840 degrees, and West Longitude 81.869240.
Ten of the eleven known graves in the Thomas Nevil Cemetery have identifiable monuments as of the date of this writing, January 11, 2013.
The Thomas Nevil Cemetery began when Rachael Parker Nevil (1818-1859), the first wife of Thomas Nevil (1808-1874), died on July 12, 1859. Thomas Nevil, her husband, and the landowner, made the choice of placing his wife's grave near the Nevil family home. The last grave to be placed here was Nancy Hendricks Jones (1820-1907). She was the daughter of John 'Jack' Hendricks (1798-1837) and Elmire Jemima Brewton, (1795-1876). Nancy Hendricks Jones is the granddaughter of Nathan Jackson Brewton (1762-1865) and Nancy Fontaine (1777-1864), who were early pioneers of Georgia, from South Carolina, settling in Tattnall County, Georgia after the Revolutionary War, where Claxton and Hagan, Georgia is now a part of Evans County. William M. Jones (1813-1877) and his wife, Nancy Hendricks Jones (1820-1907), are interred in this Cemetery. They are the parents of Mary E. Jones (1838-1927), second wife of Thomas Nevil (1808-1874, Thomas Nevil is also interred here next to his first wife, Rachael Parker (1818-1859).
