Greetings!

I have recently joined the Kane County Genealogical Society to assist me in a restoration project for Schroeder Cemetery in West Dundee, IL. The abandoned cemetery dates back to 1845 and I am looking for descendants of those who were or may have been burred there.

Some grave markers have been moved to West Dundee Township Cemetery and it has been thought since the 1970's no markers were there, but as of December 2023, markers have been found and one unearthed under a fallen tree in good condition for Mary McCloud, a woman who was born before George Washington was elected President of the United States of America! There is so much history going back to some of the first settlers of Dundee Township, with some families dating back all the way back to the Mayflower!

With the recent discoveries and with the help of volunteers, I am hoping to unearth more markers just below the surface and give the interments the recognition they deserve.

There is a plot ownership map dating back to 1845 that I am working with. Kane County Department of Transportation used this plot map back in 1997 to contact "via newspaper" the descendants of the plot owners of the 1st row of the cemetery as they were widening the road (Route 72) at the time.

As technology has improved, I feel as though I will have more success finding descendants- and already have found a few, to collaborate with regarding their relatives and the cemetery.

I do not have any relatives buried or connected to Schroeder Cemetery, just a local resident who wants to give those buried there the proper recognition and update sources like Find A Grave to provide geology to descendants and history buffs alike.

If you have any information regarding Schroeder Cemetery or its interments, please let me know.

Thank you, Mimi Garcia
