I've been doing local genealogy for 34 years since my maternal
grandmother passed away in Michigan, wanting to know who our relatives were, thinking that I was only related to a handful of people, NOT 70 cousins of hers, including over 45 paternal first cousins (at the last family reunion in 1967) when everyone was still well enough to participate.
I moved to northern Michigan, after visiting for my first ten years, not knowing my mother's maternal family had lived in area for 140 years.(Leelanau County) and mother's paternal for 110 (Grand Traverse County).
I've also done research at the Federal Archives,
Southwest Division in Ft. Worth,Texas, for my relation in Oklahoma and Texas; the State Archives of Michigan,
in Lansing, Michigan ; the Cherokee Strip Museum in Oklahoma, which are archives for the era, housed in one location.
I do not feel that your research should not
cost money (except providing death certificates etc.)to other people by a third party profiting from your research.
I believe it should be FREE not sold (unless a document) and not post or publish living people's info (names, birthdates, etc.) without their
permission.(Sometimes this will be recorded from a headstone for a living person!,which I attempt not to do).
I attempt NOT to post living people's names on this site, exception a transfer with names on it.My many THANKS to friends inputting grave plot locations for generations to come, some I'm a couple thousand miles away for some of my relatives. It is YOUR decision IF you want to charge for your research...
Also thanks to the people who just post deceased people they do not even know sometimes ,putting a biography with these people so others can find their relatives. L'm more inclined to put the families together, a marriage date is a plus, but sometimes there is a discrepancy on the month or year, especially if you're getting the information from a relative.
*I will try not to post a biography until service is over,so there is not the initial shock.
Sometimes Find A Grave is the only outlet for deceased people other than the original obituary as people are passing at an alarming rate,
*Some information was supplied second hand by people and relation, claiming to know some exacting details- wrong you can not believe every thing someone claims,no matter what relation they are to you.
