I grew up in the Coal River area (Dry Creek) Raleigh county, WV. Although I left the Coal River area in 1979, I will always remember Dry Creek as "My Home". My family ancestors are linked to Bradfords, Burnsides, Jarrells, Ballards, Dickens, Workmans, Abbotts, and Pettrys to name a few. My family cemetary is the Ballard Family cemetary at Dry Creek WV. The cemetaries that I mainly will be looking for and working on are in the western part of Raleigh County which is the Coal River area. Those towns will be Dry Creek, Horse Creek, Rock Creek, Cove Creek, Fairdale, Dameron, Arnett, Clear Fork, and Naoma areas. I will go into another county to look for an ancestor and their families. My goal is to find my ancestors and enter their name in the cemetaries where they are buried and photograph their markers for future generations. I also photograph other markers in cemeteries I visit. I will make a memorial for that individual in hopes that someone will find a lost ancestor. I am human and I may make a mistake in transcribing dates. I welcome any edits that you may find if you find a mistake. I also like to post pictures I find on memorials so we can put a face to someone other than a piece of stone. I strive for quality documentation and not quantity of markers. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about any of the memorials that I have entered. I feel its important that our ancestors be remembered and memorials be made for future generations. Most of the cemeteries I have visited are deep in the woods in remote areas, on mountain tops which are covered with briars, weeds, poisonous snakes, ticks and other wild animals. Those old cemetaries can be hard to find which can be challenging work and many times you have to walk through people's yards to get to them which can be a nuisance. To me it's important that we keep our ancestors memory alive for future generations. I just want to do my part in making this happen.
