I have visited cemeteries for many years. Family history is a hobby I really enjoy. My grandmother Deola Mae Wenner Merriott got me started and others, such as cousin James Clayton Kirksey, encouraged me. I love the Old West and Civil War history. Six of my ancestors were Confederate veterans. In the last few years I have been researching members of Cocke's Company, Benavides' Cavalry Regiment. This company served along the Texas-Mexico Border and fought in the last battle of the Civil War, the Battle of Palmito Ranch, near Brownsville, Texas.
