I began tracing my family ancestors since the early 1970s. The Paddock and Tekampe lines have been my main focus. Both families settled in Lake County, Illinois. The William Robert Paddock family arrived from Vermont in 1855 and the William Tekampe family arrived from Hanover, Germany around 1860. Both families were strong farmers in their distinctive communites. The Paddock's were predominent in the Wauconda and Grant Township areas and the Tekampe's in the Fremont Township area.

The surnames of my focus from the Paddock side are: Wagner, Stickney, Mutaw/Mouton/Meton, Harvey, Backus, Royce, Shepard, Wagner, Worts/Wirtz, Jacobs, Schneider, Culver, Flanders, Buell, Cone and Bailey.

The surnames of my focus from the Tekampe side are: Firnbach, Kampes, Lenzen, Miller/Muller/Mueller, Adolphi, Schmitt, Mayers, Klein, Getern, and Bell

Local historical facts trace Jonathan Barret Harvey and his wife, Wealthy Buell Harvey, arrived from Connecticut and Ohio to Warren Township, Lake County, Illinois in 1843. The Mother Rudd Home, named after Wealthy's first husband passed and remarried Erastus Rudd, still stands in Gurnee and now a museum for the Warren Township Historical Society.

Jacob Schmitt arrived from Germany with Nicolaus Frett and Nicolaus Adams and founded Johnsburg, Illinois in McHenry County.

William Robert Paddock's father, Dr. Robert Paddock, was the first doctor in Barre, Washington County, VT. William Robert's mother, Lucy Backus Paddock, was Dr. Robert's third wife and is buried in the Fort Hill Cemetery, in Lake County, Illinois.

If you have any additional information or have any corrections I would be interested in hearing from you.
