LEESVILLE - Bobby Gene Jones, 64, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Funeral services will be held at Pond Branch United Methodist Church in Gilbert on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with interment in Ridge Crest Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Michael Bingham and Pastor Gregory Davis officiating. Mr. Jones was born in York County, SC son of the late Daniel Dempsey Jones and Lurlene Sturkey Jones. He was a graduate of North High School. He was an Army Veteran who served in Vietnam from 1969-1970 and was the recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal and three Bronze Stars. He served as Chief of Police with Springfield Police Department from 1984-1992 and was Lieutenant with Denmark Police Department from 1992-1995. He served with the Saluda County Sheriff's Department from 1995 and again in 1999 to present time. He was the Lake Murray Resident Deputy with Saluda County Sheriff's Office and active in the Holley Ferry Crime Watch Community. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Dabney Jones; daughter, Angela Christina Marchman of Yorktown, VA; son, Monte Campbell Jones of St. Matthews; step-daughter, Jessica Fuller (Bryan David) Davis of Gilbert; grandchildren: Blake McMillan, Wade Davis and Addison Jones. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Milton Shealy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: Disabled American Veterans, 1801 Assembly Street, Suite 129, Columbia, SC 29201.
