CLARKSVILLE -- John Elton Jones Sr., 87, died Sept. 18 from complications of an intestinal infection. Mr. Jones was the oldest child of the late Charles Alex and Laura Parham Jones. He was a native of Williamson County and graduated from Franklin High School in 1932. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-45, having married Allie Virginia Ashworth of Franklin on Sept. 29, 1942. Mr. Jones and family moved to Clarksville in 1952 to open Jones Auto Repair, which operated until 1968. He then worked for the Montgomery County School System as a vocational instructor until he retired to his farm in Adams in 1974. He returned to Clarksville with his wife in 1996. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Virginia; a son, John E. Jones Jr. and his wife Vicki of Fairview; three daughters, Virginia Annette Reid and her husband David of Clarksville, Janet Felts and her husband David of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Karen Parker and her husband Donnie of Dickson; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Alex Eugene Jones and his wife Edna of Franklin and Eulala Anderson and her husband Bob of Brentwood. Sykes Funeral Home in Clarksville was in charge of arrangements.
