Burton V. Miller, 89, of North Washington Street, North Attleboro, died on August 11, 2012 at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro. He was the loving husband of the late Shirley (Gilmore) Miller and the late Lorraine (Pelletier) Miller.

Born in Wrentham on July 6, 1923, he was a son of the late Bruce and Verance (Randall) Miller. He was a graduate of the Wrentham Centre High School and had also attended schools in New Hampshire and Vermont. Enlisting in the Army Air Corps during the Second World War, he had attended the Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Engine School in Hartford, CT., the New England Aircraft School in Boston, and Bell Aircraft School in Buffalo, NY and the Aircraft Gunner’s School in Ft. Meyers, FL. Serving overseas he was a Flight Engineer Gunner with the 8th Air Force, 401st Bomb Squadron. He flew missions in B-17s from bases in England, and it was on Aug. 24, 1944 that his plane was shot down and he was wounded and taken prisoner in Hamburg, Germany. Attaining the rank of Tech Sgt he was honorably discharged on February 16, 1946. Employed during his working years as a Corrections Officer he worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at MCI Norfolk. At one time he had also been the Acting Police Chief in the Town of Plainville. An avid reader, he loved hunting and fishing and the out of doors where he so loved to share times with family and friends. He owned houses in Moscow, Maine and Venice, Florida, and enjoyed the times he spent there.

He is survived by his loving daughter Mary-Ellen Miller of Mansfield, son Brian Miller of Moscow, ME, and was father of the late Paul Miller. A dear brother of Bruce H. Miller Jr. of Mattapoisett, Grace Spencer of Wrentham, and Joan Moriarty of Plainville. Step children, Paul Pelletier of Plainville, Collette Samsel of Canton, Aline Silva of Plainville, Suzanne Fisher and Dianne Pelletier both of Venice, FL, three grandsons, and three great grandsons. At Burton’s request there will be no services at this time, and burial of ashes following cremation will be in the Wrentham Centre Cemetery. Burton’s family are very grateful to the Madonna Manor and the nurses, aids and staff for their amazing care and support during his stay there. Donations in his memory may be made to either the Ex-Pows or to the Disabled American Veterans.
