Film director and screenwriter. Born Alexandre Joffé he began his film career as an operator before becoming in the secretary of director Jean Aurenche. Then he converted in the writer of several screenplays since 1946. He was author of 32 screenplays and directed 12 films: "Six heures à perdre" (1946), "Lettre ouverte" (1953), "Les Hussards" (1955), " Les Assassins du dimanche" (1956), "Les Fanatiques" (1957), "Du rififi chez les femmes" (1959), "Fortunat" (1960), "Le Tracassin ou Les Plaisirs de la ville" (1961), "Les Culottes rouges" (1962), " Pas question le samedi" (1965), "La Grosse Caisse" (1965) and "Les Cracks" (1968). He also worked as an actor in three films, directed by other directors among them François Truffaut.
He married to Renée Asséo-Joffé, and was father of actor and filmmaker Arthur Joffé.
