Betty Adams, 79, of Michelle Lynn Drive, Lancaster, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004 at home.
She was born in Millerstown to the late Lucian and Edith Chubb.
She had worked at Hubley Toys, Hamilton Watch in East Petersburg and was self-employed in the dog grooming business; and after her brother was killed in World War II, she joined the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in 1945 and served as a corporal in the Army Air Force in San Antonio, Texas.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for 53 years, where she was a member of "Come Join Us" Sunday school class, served on various committees and active in United Methodist Women. She worked in the church kitchen for more than 25 years, organizing more than 200 meals/luncheons for church activities and was known for her chicken corn soup. She worked with vacation Bible school and was chairwoman of the Cornwall Methodist Home Bazaar for two years.
She also was a den mother for Cub Scouts, and enjoyed spending holidays and vacations at the family hunting camp in Ickesburg.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Ellie L. Adams, whom she met in the service; two children, Shirley M. Daniels of Brownstown and Kevin L. of Lancaster; a sister, Kathryn Wiley of Mechanicsburg; a brother, Richard Chubb of Lancaster; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Daniels Adams of Ephrata, Collette Adams of Messiah College, Katelyn Adams of Kutztown University, Bryan Adams, Jenna Witmer, Heather Witmer, Deron Witmer and Mitchell Witmer, all of Lancaster; and a great-grandson, Brandon Adams of Ephrata.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard Chubb, Raymond Chubb, who was killed in World War II, and Harold Chubb; and three sisters, Pearl Chubb Fusselman, Bertha McElrath and Shirley Marie Chubb.
Services were held Nov. 30 in her church with pastor James Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in Conestoga Memorial Park Cemetery.
Snyder Funeral Home, Lancaster, handled arrangements.
