Mykola "Nick" Iwachiw, age 82, of Munster, IN, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2007. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Myroslawa "Myra" (nee Tanchak); daughters: Orysia (late Doug) Lamport of Murphysboro, IL, Stephanie (Cyril) Bohney of Munster, IN; son Jerry (Christina) Iwachiw of Munster, IN; grandchildren Chris, Teresa, Matt, Grace and Clarissa; brother Stephan (late Anna) Iwachiw in the Ukraine; sister-in-law Anna (Olexa) Zrada of Glenwood, IL; several nieces, nephews and a cousin. He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and three sisters all in Ukraine; sister-in-law Stephania (still living Myron) Stebelsky. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 20, 2007, Directly at St. Josephat Ukrainian Catholic Church, 8624 White Oak, Munster, IN 46324. A Mass will start at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Yaroslav Mendyuk officiating. Mr. Iwachiw will lie in state at the church form 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Hammond, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 3-8 p.m. with a 7pm panahyda service at Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home (corner of Main and Kennedy) Schererville/Highland, IN 219-322-7766. Mykola was born in the Ukraine and then became a long time area resident of Munster, where he became a member of the St. Josephat Ukrainian Catholic Church of Munster. He was a self employed tailor that started off at "Benson & Rixon" in the Woodmar Mall and "Zanstra's" downtown Highland, later to own his own business. Nick was a master gardener, and loved Ukrainian Folk Music and singing in the Church Choir. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed for his sense of humor.
