Eugene Smith "Jim" Bezzant

Eugene Smith "Jim" Bezzant passed away October 26, 2012, due to injuries suffered in a fall.

Eugene was born on April 2, 1928, in Farmington, Utah, to Glen Lloyd and Luretha May Bezzant. His family moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah, when he was five, where he spent his childhood and attended school. He participated in a variety of activities in high school and was an excellent student. He worked on his parents fruit farm as a child and continued fruit farming throughout his life. He was employed by Geneva Steel and Burns Security.

He married Mary Louise Adamson in the Salt Lake Temple on June 26, 1946. Together they established a home in Pleasant Grove filled with love, faith, and hard work. They raised their seven children on their fruit farm on Grovecreek Drive. On November 14, 2003, and after 57 years of marriage, Mary, the love of his life, passed away. He married Bonnie Shurtleff on August 28, 2004, and moved to Orem, Utah, where he resided until his death. Jim and Bonnie enjoyed nine years of loving companionship.

As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he loves the Lord and served Him in a variety of church callings over the years. He blessed many lives during his time as bishop of his ward and will always be remembered as Bishop Bezzant. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel and lived a good and honest life. His life was one of service and his legacy is one of family, faith, and hard work. He loved talking to people and had a great sense of humor.

Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie; his seven children: John (Christina), Pleasant Grove; Mark (Colleen), Pleasant Grove; Carolyn (Parry), Merkley, VA; Kathleen (Randy), Pleasant Grove; Nancy (Robert) West, Provo; Paul (Marilyn) Layton; Ray (Christine), CO; brother, Robert Bezzant; 27 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents; sister, Virginia Loader; brother, Clifford Bezzant; and one great-grandchild.
