Jewell Scarborough, 88, of Hull, died Saturday, July 24, 1999, at Athens Regional Medical Center.


A native of Madison County, Mr. Scarborough was born September 30, 1910. He was a son of the late Silas Benjamin and Mae Chastain Scarborough.


Mr. Scarborough was a retired farmer and of the Methodist faith.


Funeral services were held Monday, July 26, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Dayton Logan and Lonnie Bennett officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Scarborough's grandsons served as pallbearers.


Survivors include his wife, Vivian Wood Scarborough; five sons, James Scarborough, Hull, Ernest Scarborough and Johnny Scarborough, both of Comer, Kenneth Scarborough, Danielsville, and Charles Scarborough, Ila; two daughters, Louise Gueth, Comer, and Martha Adams, Danielsville; one sister, Myrtie Alewine, Crawford; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


Pruitte Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements.
