She graduated from Murphysboro Township High School with the Class of 1920. Mrs. Hardy began her teaching career in the early 1920s at Lincoln School in Murphysboro until her marriage to Robert Hardy. She returned to Lincoln School in 1946 teaching first grade. Mrs. Hardy served a total of 26 years with the Murphysboro schools until her retirement in 1967.
She was a member and Sunday school teacher at United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Jackson County Nursing Home Auxiliary and St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary.
Mrs. Hardy was a member of the Wesleyan Service Guild in Murphysboro, and volunteered at the Sally Logan Library for its story hours for children.
She was the recipient of awards from the American Cancer Society and was one of the original Head Start teachers in Southern Illinois.
Survivors include two sons, John Hardy of Gainesville, Fla., and Robert Hardy Jr. of Springfield; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Two brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or United Methodist Church Organ Fund.
