Funeral services for Brooke Anderson, 28, of Rockwell City, formerly of Aurelia, Storm Lake and Lake City, were held on Sept. 20 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Aurelia.

Brooke Lynn Anderson was born on Feb. 26, 1980 in Cherokee, the daughter of Charles and Carla (Backhaus) Anderson. Brooke became a resident at Faith, Hope & Charity in Storm Lake at a young age, and later lived at Opportunity Life in Lake City as well as Opportunity Life in Rockwell City, where on September 16, 2008, she was struck by a bus. Brooke died at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines later that evening. Brooke enjoyed music, swimming, fast rides, sitting in her bean bag chair, roller skating, horse back riding, boating and especially the sensory room.

Preceding Brooke in death was her grandfather, Carl Backhaus Jr.

Survivors include her parents, Bruce and Carla Peterson of Alta; one brother, Leigh and his wife Angie Peterson, two sisters, Katina and her husband Jonny Johnson, and Destiny Peterson, all of Aurelia; grandparents, Marilyn Stiles of Cherokee, Marjorie and Ron Neulieb of Alta, Ken and Jan Peterson of Aurelia, and Janet Backhaus of Aurelia; three nieces: Mazy and Savannah Johnson and Emma Peterson and one nephew, Tyler Peterson; and many aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
