John Fero, aged 82, a prominent farmer of the town of Catlin was found dead in his woodshed on Friday, Feb. 7, 1947, about 5:30 p. m. by his daughter, who became alarmed when she noticed the chore work he usually did before dark was not done. She went searching and found him lying on the ground in the shed ... He was born November 16, 1864 on the same farm where he had since resided, the son of Aaron and Amy Gibson Fero. On March 14, 1893, Mr. Fero was united in marriage to Mrs. Eva Sturdivant Johnson of Midway. To this union, one daughter Ruth was born. Mr. Fero served as supervisor for six years and finished out a term in the town clerk's office left vacant by the death of Harry Cooper of Catlin Center several years ago. He was of a quiet disposition and was held in high esteem by the community and those associated with him through the years. His passing has removed another of the prominent ancestral names of the Fero family in Catlin Center. His sister, Mary Fero, married Solpherino Hooker.
