Regarding the name of the B24D: The aircraft was alternately known as the "Damfino" (pronounced as in "damned if I know") or "Four Eyes", depending on which side of the aircraft you were standing. Port side had the Damfino logo with a painting of a prone naked girl with propeller breasts. Starboard just The words "Four Eyes" as far as I know. The painting was done by Amos Nicholson, famous for painting the Disney characters on some of the 98th's ships. The two witnesses to the Damfino going down were both on the "Sleepy" (Snow White) aka "Squaw", piloted by Lebrecht on the opposite side of the formation. Although often reported as 9 MIA, the MACR shows 10. O'Mara was my uncle

Sgt O'Mara was a gunner in the 389th BG he was on temporary duty with Hadcocks crew from the 98th Bomb Group when he was killed.

Sgt O'Mara was a recipient of the Distinguished flying cross for his participation in the Ploesti raid "Operation Tidal Wave" one of the most daring raids of WW2. Coming in at tree top level the Sky Scorpions destroy the Steaua Romana oil refinery. The refinery does not produce oil for six months. The 389th earns Presidential Unit Citation, all of the crews receive the Distinguished Flying Cross, The 389th BG loses six aircraft on this mission.
